To Regionals and Back

During the month of February and March, A LOT of CrossFitters, new and "old," participated in the CrossFit Open.  We all wanted to know how we stacked up against Rich Froning and the guy working out next to us.  If nothing else, we learned about our own weaknesses and excitedly set goals for the year.

More recently, Marc and I had the opportunity to volunteer at Regionals in Atlanta.  This is definitely a privilege and a sacrifice.  It is a privilege because we were chosen, requested actually, over many other applicants and we get to see the behind the scenes of how CF pulls off these major events.

One of the most memorable moments is during the athlete check-in.  So many of us have stars in our eyes over some of these people that we can't imagine them being confused, nervous, or even a bit clueless!  99.9% of CrossFitters are the most awesome people!  Some of them are moms or dads, college kids, people that work 2 jobs, run their own business, single, married and there were even 2 high school kids!

And then there was Marc's side of things...JUDGING.  Haters gonna hate and if they don't already hate you, they will after a no rep!  It's a thankless volunteer job, but being out on the floor, seeing these athletes give it their all, is inspiring.

When all is said and done, and I've succeeded in getting the First Place Finisher to finally get drug tested, we can say that this incredibly exhausting experience is worth it.  Why?  The memories, the new friendships, the ignited drive to get better ourselves, and lastly, when the top CFHQ people tell you, "let me know if there is anything I can do for you," you know it was the right choice to make BFCF better.
